Journeys into Relation
Journeys into Relation: Vignettes of OEE-based Integrated Curriculum Programs in Ontario Secondary Schools
Thanks to the passionate and talented voices of 16 teachers, 1 student, one Faculty of Education Professor Emeritus and one Faculty of Education Instructor, longtime COEO member Grant Linney has compiled and edited a 109-page collection of information, stories and photographs regarding OEE-based Integrated Curriculum Programs across Ontario. These programs have been referred to as “one of most stimulating innovations to have hit the education scene” in recent years.
Research Summary
Authored by Chloe Humphreys, this 75-page, fully referenced document presents current research and conceptualizations in the field of outdoor and experiential education (OEE) and the findings are presented according to COEO’s four stated values: education for curriculum and community, character, wellbeing, and environment.
COEO hopes that Dynamic Horizons will contribute significantly to ongoing discussions about the importance of outdoor education in communities, schools, parks, conservation areas and elsewhere.
DYNAMIC HORIZONS: Research and Conceptual Summary of Outdoor Education, 2018
Research Summary
-
The comprehensive document has 169 end-notes and 101 references. The findings are reported according to COEO’s four stated values, namely, education for curriculum and community, character, wellbeing, and environment.
In addition to a text that details compelling research, different programs and exemplary instances of government initiatives to establish and make effective use of OEE, this document features a number of great colour photos of students powerfully connecting with themselves, others and their natural surroundings through outdoor learning. It also provides a number of evidence-based recommendations to the Ontario government as well as to Canadian postgraduate schools.
COEO hopes that Reconnecting Children will contribute significantly to current discussions about making today’s youth more active and comfortable in the outdoors, more confident about their own abilities and their interactions with others, and more connected through their hands, heart and mind to the natural life support systems of this planet.Description text goes here.
